About Brian

A performer and educator, Brian Fields is a member of the Percussion Instruction Staff and a Drum Circle Facilitator at Bongo Boy Music School. His teaching philosophy is based on a balance of strong fundamentals, creativity, and having fun! Brian's current teaching duties at Bongo Boy include drum set, snare drum, hand-drum, mallet percussion private lessons, and group hand-drum classes.

He received a Masters Degree in Music Technology from the School of Music at IUPUI in 2004 and is currently an Adjunct Faculty member. While completing his masters degree Brian served as the graduate assistant to Johnny Lee Lane, then the Director of Percussion Studies at IUPUI. Mr. Lane is currently the Director of Education for Remo, Inc., the largest manufacturer of drumheads and percussion in the world.

An energetic drummer and percussionist, Brian performs regularly in Indianapolis and the surrounding region in a variety of musical styles. Since relocating to Indianapolis in 2003, Brian has performed with many artists including the Jack Gilfoy Trio, IUPUI Jazz Band and Percussion Ensembles, Rob Dixon Quartet, Hopkins & Miller, the Monsalve-Perez Latin Jazz Quintet, Urbanos, Lafayette Symphony Orchestra, Battle Creek Symphony Orchestra, the Impalas, Mr. Sparkle, the Four Sexes, the Leonard Brothers, Polly B. & the Jam, and Shake & Bake. Brian is currently the drummer for the Indianapolis-based rock band, Dark House Sweet.

A native of eastern Pennsylvania, he completed his BA Music degree from Kutztown University of Pennsylvania. His principle teachers included Dr. Will Rapp and Dr. Frank Kumor (percussion studies), and Dr. Alan Apple and Dr. Kevin Kjos (jazz studies). During his studies at KU, he had the opportunity to study with several guest performers and clinicians including Ruben Alvarez (Afro-Cuban percussion), Chalo Eduardo and Ney Resauro (Brazilian percussion), Leon Mobley and Paulo Mattioli (West African percussion), Ed Soph, Steve Houghton and Chris Hanning (drum set).
