Bongo Boy Music School

School Programs

GRADE LEVEL WORKSHOPS

Grade Level Workshops celebrate  rhythm by focusing on listening skills, rhythm enhancement and self expression within the groove. The Drum Circles can vary in size from 50-175 students. Depending on the size of the group each student plays a drum or a percussion instrument. We facilitate up to 6 sessions/day and each session is 30 minutes in length. We can tailor the Drum Circles to meet State Standards during the workshops in the areas of Music, Math, Geography and English.  For more information and pricing contact Lisa Colleen at 317-771-0241 or email her at lisa@bongoboymusic.com.

RHYTHM WORKSHOPS

Rhythm Workshops incorporate layering multiple rhythms into a Drum Circle. There are 35-50 students in each group and every student has a physical drum. There is an opportunity to work on specific rhythms if the Music Educator wants us to include this in the program. We can tailor the Drum Circles to meet State Standards during the workshops in the areas of Music, Math, Geography and English. We facilitate up to 6 sessions/day and each session is 30 minutes in length. For more information and pricing contact Lisa Colleen at 317-771-0241 or email her at lisa@bongoboymusic.com.

ARTIST IN RESIDENCE

Artist In Residence are 3-5 day programs that are tailored to fit the specific needs and meet the expectations of the Music Educator.  For more information and pricing contact Lisa Colleen at 317-771-0241 or email her at lisa@bongoboymusic.com.

STAFF TEAM BUILDING

Principals…if you are looking for a fun and creative way to motivate your staff, a Bongo Boy Staff Drum Circle is the perfect activity.  We focus on challenging teachers to think outside of the box, take a step into the unknown and creatively express themselves through rhythm.  The drum circle is focused on team building through various rhythm activities.  The idea is to relax, let go and have fun!

Contact Lisa at lisa@bongoboymusic.com for scheduling and more information.

Bongo Boy Music School provides Three Rhythm Programs for students who are showing at-risk behaviors in school.  Rhythm experience is not needed for any of these programs.

BEAT THE ODDS:
Social and Emotional Skill Building Delivered in a Framework of Drumming
Beat the Odds integrates activities from contemporary drum circles and group counseling to teach skills such as focusing and listening, team building, positive risk taking, self-esteem, awareness of others, leadership, expressing feelings, managing anger/stress, empathy and gratitude.  This 8 week, 45 minute program is designed to serve an entire classroom, but can be tailored to meet the specific needs of the school.

This program is a researched based program. UCLA reasearchers have shown that Beat the Odds can significantly improve a spectrum of behavior problems in children, such as inattention, withdrawn/depression, posttraumatic stress, anxiety, attention deficit/hyperactivity, oppositional defiance, and sluggish cognitive tempo.

The program is feasible and sustainable.  It is intended to benefit the entire school community and is not limited to any particular population.  Third through fifth grade students are targeted in this Program because their peer centric developmental stage lends itself well to group-oriented activities.  However, this program is easily adapted in to any population.
